Manage, execute and support both internal and external strategic communication projects and initiatives, including member/stakeholder communications, podcasts, blogs, reports, marketing and promotional materials, website content, presentations, remarks, technical documents, etc. Duties include content creation, curation and prioritization; in-depth research and analysis, message development, comprehensive writing, editing and presentation development.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute and manage communications materials for CenterState CEO and its various programs and initiatives, including internal and external communications (i.e., podcasts, blogs, website content, weekly e-blast, media quotes, press releases and other various assignments.
  • Develop presentations, speeches and other important corporate messages for leadership team and staff.
  • Execute major communications projects, including multiple or all aspects (content generation, writing, proofing, etc.) of CenterState CEO’s Annual Report, Economic Forecast Report, Legislative Directory, Lobbying Guide, regional project reports and others.
  • Write, edit and proof stories and other content for external communications, including social media, blogs, website, podcasts and member/stakeholder communications.
  • Develop (write, edit) content for Click, the digital chamber portal, and ensure its success, including site e-books, scripts and other materials.
  • In coordination with the SVP of Marketing and Communications, plan and coordinate CenterState CEO’s media outreach, including writing press releases; interacting with tv, print and radio news media; and planning all aspects of press events (e.g., coordinating attendees, speakers and dignitaries; formulation of agenda, preparation of remarks for all speakers).
  • Plan and execute the communication needs of CenterState CEO’s major annual events (i.e., Annual Meeting, Economic Champions, Economic Forecast an others); arrange logistics and details, including writing speakers remarks, coordinating press coverage/media outreach, preparing presentation materials, formulating minute-by-minute agendas, arranging for audiovisual equipment, etc.)
  • Serve as a source of expertise and support to the Marketing, Events and Communications team, as well as all departments (Administration, Member and Business Experience; Inclusive Growth; Strategy, Policy and Planning; and Racial Equity and Social Impact) in the development and implementation of communication strategies as needed.
  • Write and edit content to support the development of promotional materials for the organization’s various departments, including ads, fliers, website components, sales sheets and other publications.
  • Serve as liaison with external vendors on graphic design, printing, mailing, video production, media advertising and audiovisual needs, and execute contracts and projects as required.
  • Maintain and manage content for CEO’s website, including keeping all pages up to date with current content (news articles, monthly reoccurring updates and all other internal pages). Support content for social media pages as needed.
  • Provides consistent and timely information to employees through various communications outlets.
  • Represent the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and events
  • Keep abreast of new trends, and upcoming events or overall progress of the business and regional economic development.
  • Expected to attend and actively participate in weekly, senior staff meetings, staff meetings, board and investor meetings, events and weekly communications team meetings.
  • Additional duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

Minimum Education and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or similar field of study. Additional years of experience at a ratio of 2:1 may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience required; a minimum of 3 years must be progressive, hands-on experience in public relations/communications.
  • Experience in Economic Development communications preferred.

Special Requirements:

  • Driver’s license.
  • Regular day travel.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work beyond normal work hours.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work weekends or working from home as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Superior copy writing and copy-editing skills, including ability to write executive-level communications for internal and external audiences.
  • Strong command of brand voice, and ability to integrate and target messaging to meet the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders, and to reach multiple audiences.
  • Ability to write in a journalistic style that is customary for corporate and external publications, including knowledge of The Associated Press style guidelines.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Computer/technical proficiency including in Microsoft Office Suite (Office 365), Adobe Creative Suite, Constant Contact, website content management systems (Drupal, Wix, Weebly), data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications. Salesforce proficiency a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Knowledge of strategic communications, public relations and marketing concepts, principles, methodology and techniques.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate media activities and special events.
  • Ability to provide effective advice and counsel on strategic and/or critical communication issues and to exercise effective judgment.
  • Ability to respond to questions from groups of department heads, managers and members.
  • Excellent time management; skill in planning and scheduling to meet multiple deadlines and ensure the timely completion of projects.
  • Ability to coordinate efforts of various teams to present a coherent message.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities. Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Close mental and visual attention required to perform work dealing primarily with preparing, analyzing, and interpreting data and figures, using a computer terminal, and/or extensive reading.
  • General office equipment is used.

Work Environment:

There is no exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed in a typical office work environment with outside travel to client/member/prospect locations.
