CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity (CenterState CEO), a Syracuse-based regional business and economic development organization, seeks applications from individuals with expertise in workforce development program implementation to serve as Program Coordinator for Pathways to Apprenticeship. This program will provide construction training to prepare Syracuse residents, particularly people of color and women, to successfully enter union apprenticeship and/or construction careers.

This is a part-time, limited-term position. We are seeking a Coordinator to provide day-to-day logistical support for up to 30 hours per week, beginning as soon as possible and continuing to the fourth quarter of 2021. The hourly rate is $35-45, DOE. The position will be based in Syracuse, and requires ability to travel within the region.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (additional duties may be assigned):

The Program Coordinator will be an integral part of the operations and culture of the program. They will: · Work with community partners to identify and screen candidates from target population who have aptitude and readiness for construction careers. Using pre-established eligibility criteria, work with the Pathways team to decide on the final cohort to be enrolled in the program.

  • Coordinate schedules of multiple instructors and maintain overall structure/flow of the curriculum. Handle all personnel paperwork for those providing instruction for the MC3 curriculum.
  • Manage overall tutoring schedule; arrange times for participants to work 1:1 with SUNY EOC tutors to build math skills and prepare for apprenticeship tests.
  • Be present daily in the classroom; create a welcoming and culturally competent environment for students; monitor daily attendance and connect with students to identify concerns and barriers. Become certified in Multi-Craft Core Curriculum and lead instruction on an as-needed basis.
  • Manage COVID safety protocols throughout all aspects of the program; work with training site to develop COVID safety protocols and adherence to those protocols in the classroom by both instructors and students.
  • Plan, purchase, organize and bring classroom materials (e.g. print materials; construction materials, etc).
  • Organize trips to union apprenticeship training sites around CNY, including arranging transportation to and from sites; schedule offsite speakers, tours and student experience at those sites.
  • Administer participant evaluations of their experience in the program, and work with instructors to record evaluation results to measure progress towards learning objectives.
  • Manage participant stipend payments; manage client support budget and invoicing; monitor insurance coverage and paperwork for offsite visits.
  • Coordinate with partner organizations to support effective case management with participants and access to support services. Meet with each participant to create a career plan and continue to work with graduates after program graduation to secure employment and/or entry into apprenticeship.
  • Utilize Excel or other database tool to track student progress and provide accurate data toward identified program goals. Handle sensitive and confidential student information.
  • Work with unions, employers and community partners to ensure that 80% of program graduates enter union apprenticeship or construction employment. Achieving this goal will require the coordinator to track apprenticeship testing schedules, follow up with both student and union/employer, and problem-solve/coach students as they are preparing for interviews, as well as recommend candidates for open job orders based on employer requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with the construction industry and union labor movement, including an understanding of processes for applying to union apprenticeship programs and succeeding in a union construction career.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks. Qualified individual will effectively delegate and provide follow up to ensure projects get to completion. Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and proposing new ways of creating efficiencies. Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detail-oriented.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills and experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team. Ability to handle challenging conversations with peers, partners and program participants. Comfort approaching people and striking up conversations to invite engagement.
  • Strong customer service skills, including greeting and directing clients and guests in a professional and consistent manner and understanding and communicating programs, enrollment and eligibility processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of workforce development and/or knowledge of implementing programs and training. Ability to coordinate complex service delivery systems, and
  • experience creating and maintaining industry, employer and union relationships.
  • Case management experience, including the ability to effectively work with a diverse population, especially individuals with challenges to securing employment.
  • Excellent computer skills; thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook a must) and the ability to learn new systems desired. Ability to handle multiple social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Indeed, and LinkedIn.
  • Access to a car and valid NYS drivers’ license is required

Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
