Oversees all the organization's financial matters as it relates to accounting, grants management, auditing, treasury, tax, GL, A/P, A/R, cost accounting, internal control, ERP systems, payroll, process improvements and more in accordance with the General Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP). The Senior Director of Finance and Accounting acts as the primary contact person, working with banks to develop relationships and suggestions to generate divergent income through short- and long-term investments.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (additional duties may be assigned)

  • Manage month-end and year-end close and reporting cycle.
  • Lead annual audit and tax compliance, including timely completion of the 990-tax filing.
  • Streamline processes and create efficiencies within the accounting department as needed.
  • Build and maintain systems and processes to analyze cost control, cash flow, monthly close & financials, contract and grant allocation management, and other accounting records as appropriate.
  • In conjunction with members of the Executive Investment Committee, work with banks to develop strategies for short- and long-term investments that generate divergent income for the organization.
  • Maintain internal safeguards.
  • Work with teams to build and maintain an allocation methodology and educate all the teams on it.
  • Ensure development, implementation and maintenance of internal control systems to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate management of all revenue received, consulting with the teams as required.
  • Strengthen and develop financial reporting and analytics to provide direction to CenterState CEO’s financial planning, and to facilitate strategic financial business initiatives and decisions.
  • Interpret information so that leadership can make good strategic decisions for the organization, and so that all key staff has the necessary information to make real-time decisions in a financially responsible manner.
  • Maintain and develop accounting controls and procedures. Ensure accurate and timely financial data, reports in accordance with GAAP.
  • Lead, guide, and coach direct reports in financial processes and reporting. Ensure the success of the team and their performance with an eye toward internal controls and continuous improvements
  • Supports finance and accounting functions of affiliates.
  • Work with HR to develop and manage salary, benefit, and other related human capital budgets.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; master's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Direct firsthand experience in all aspects of financial management and accounting, including reporting, budgeting, auditing and developing corporate investment strategies required.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years senior level experience in managing a finance and accounting function; minimum of three years must be in supervisory capacity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of financial management in nonprofit organizations, including requirements for grant management, allocation, and Form 990.
  • Systems understanding; advanced proficiencies in MS Office (especially Excel) and strong working knowledge of nonprofit accounting software such as Sage/MIP and Financial Edge required.
  • Experience with electronic payroll management system required; Paylocity preferred.
  • Evidence of leading teams to high performance, applying supervisory skills to determine professional development needs for direct reports, setting strategic priorities and managing people with a high level of emotional intelligence.
  • Organizational skills within high volume and highly detailed environments.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills; must be comfortable addressing and engaging with diverse communities at various levels and across different mediums including in-person, email, and phone calls.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Must be able to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis.
  • Possess a proactive approach to work with an affinity for accuracy and successful outcomes.
  • A high level of integrity, dependability, and accountability for both individual and organizational goals.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position supervises CenterState CEO’s finance and accounting team, including all aspects of supervision, performance management, team formation and growth.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Close mental and visual attention required to perform work dealing primarily with preparing, analyzing, and interpreting data and figures, using a computer terminal, and/or extensive reading.
  • General office equipment is used.

Work Environment:

There is no exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed in a typical office work environment with outside travel to client/member/prospect locations.
