SYRACUSE, NY (December 3, 2018) - Please find below the MOST's calendar of events for January 2019.

 

The MOST will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, throughout the month of January. Offered Fridays through Sundays, domed IMAX films will be shown in the Bristol IMAX Omnitheater from noon to 3 p.m., MOST Science Educators will demonstrate various scientific topics, and three planetarium shows will be offered. Sensory friendly kits are always available to sign out from the Science Shop free of charge. For more information, visit the MOST website at www.most.org or call 315.425.9068.

The MOST's newest traveling exhibit, M&T Bank presents: Dinomania, is a hit with families and kids of all ages! On display through January 21, experience amazingly lifelike dinosaurs based on discoveries from top paleontologists throughout the world. Stand beside your favorite dinosaurs and travel back in time to experience the exciting age of the dinosaurs with the most immersive experience yet!

COST: Included in exhibit admission. Exhibit admission is free for MOST members. For nonmembers, exhibit admission is $12/adult, $10/child (ages 2-17) & $10/senior (ages 65+). Children under the age of 2 are free.

NASA's Hubble Space Telescope: New Views of the Universe Traveling Exhibit will be on display throughout the month of January in the Horowitz Traveling Exhibit Area. The 2,200 square-foot exhibit immerses visitors in the magnificence and mystery of the Hubble mission and introduces the James Webb Space Telescope, which will be NASA's premier cosmos observatory. Visit the MOST to explore and discover the splendors of Hubble's many discoveries with NASA's very own traveling Hubble exhibit.

Every Saturday from noon to 12:30 p.m. throughout the month of January, discover and learn with a Science Educator during a science demonstration that features Mystic, the MOST's ball python.

COST: Included in exhibit admission. Exhibit admission is free for MOST members. For nonmembers, exhibit admission is $12/adult, $10/child (ages 2-17) & $10/senior (ages 65+). Children under the age of 2 are free.

Every Saturday from 2:30 to 3 p.m., enjoy a guided tour of visiting exhibit, Dinomania, presented by M&T Bank, with a MOST Science Educator. Travel back in time to the age of the dinosaurs during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and learn about the dinosaurs that roamed Earth. Learn where they lived, what they ate, and some amazing adaptations that helped them survive. You will feel like more than just a spectator  as you adventure through Dinomania, admiring the T. rex's fierce jaws and the nest of the  Maiasaura ("Good Mother Lizard") where her vulnerable young are hatching.

Every Sunday from noon to 12:30 p.m. throughout the month of January, discover and learn with science demonstration, Kitchen Science: Acids and Bases,  hosted by a MOST Science Educator. Learn about common household substances and their properties during this science demonstration.

COST: Included in exhibit admission. Exhibit admission is free for MOST members. For nonmembers, exhibit admission is $12/adult, $10/child (ages 2-17) & $10/senior (ages 65+). Children under the age of 2 are free.

Every Sunday from 2:30 to 3 p.m., join a MOST Science Educator for a guided tour of the NASA Hubble Space Telescope exhibit. Learn how the Hubble telescope works as you explore the anatomy of the telescope and scale model. Discuss what Hubble has brought to us on Earth as well as its important discoveries, such as narrowing the Universe's age range, our understanding of dark energy, and the Universe's continued expansion. Further explore the James Webb Space Telescope and how its technology will contribute to space discoveries well into the future.

Bank of America Museums On Us weekend takes place at the MOST during the first full weekend of every month. On Saturday, January 5 and Sunday, January 6, present a Bank of America or Merrill Lynch debit or credit card with valid photo ID for one FREE MOST exhibit admission. Join the Saturday T.E.A.M. on the first Saturday of every month for an afternoon of hands-on innovation and discovery at the MOST! January's Saturday T.E.A.M. will take place on Saturday, January 5 from noon to 1 p.m. and explore the topic of Coding (computer programming). Saturday T.E.A.M. workshops are open to all aspiring inventors, creators, and engineers!

The MOST's newest planetarium show, Focus on Hubble, will be offered throughout the month of January at 1:15 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. Experience NASA's Hubble Space Telescope exhibit on display at the MOST and enhance your understanding of this amazing marvel with a MOST Science Educator during this awe-inspiring planetarium show.

COST: FREE for MOST members; Exhibit admission plus additional $3 planetarium show fee per person for nonmembers.

Sensory Friendly Time will be held on Saturday, January 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. During Sensory Friendly Time, the Museum turns down the noise, turns off flashing lights, shuts off air compressors, and turns on the house lights so people with sensory processing challenges can enjoy the MOST and sensory friendly activities. Sensory Friendly kits containing a variety of items are always available to be signed out at the Science Shop.

Say goodbye to the dinosaurs with our Going Extinct event on Monday, January 21 as the Dinomania exhibit, presented by M&T Bank, leaves the MOST! Enjoy the Dinomania exhibit and dinosaur activities one last time as you wish our friends farewell before they head back to the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods of long ago.

January's Be the Scientisttopic isBe the VeterinarianPresented by Summerwood Pediatrics, Be the Veterinarian will be held on Saturday, January 26 from noon to 4:00 p.m. The Be the Scientist program enables visitors to learn, engage and explore the activities of a different type of scientist on the last Saturday of every month. Participants receive an Explorer Card to track progress through the program's three steps: Learn, Engage, Explore. Earn your Explorer Card punch each month and win a prize after 12 completed sessions! Most suitable for children ages 6 and up.

The fifth annual Central New York VEX IQ Robotics Challenge will be held on Saturday, January 26 at the MOST. Teams of middle and high school students, with guidance from teachers and mentors, build a robot using VEX IQ robotics to solve an engineering challenge - this year's challenge is Next Level. VEX IQ Robotics teams work together to score points and showcase their robot's skills in driver-controlled and autonomous challenges. Trophies will be awarded to top teams. COST: There is a $35 team registration fee; Syracuse City School District teams can apply for a registration fee waiver.
