A vital part of CenterState CEO’s work to prepare the Central New York workforce for high-tech careers available in the region is relevant and engaging training opportunities. These programs can’t be realized without experienced instructors that will teach the next generation of high-demand workers. For experienced industry professionals looking for a way to give back and support the region’s growth, there is an opportunity to teach and lead the next generation.

SUNY Oswego is offering an instructor bootcamp this fall and winter. The bootcamp is a total of 40 hours, and coursework is a hybrid of remote and in-person coursework. Participants will be paid a stipend and class time is flexible to include weekends and evenings. Those who complete the course will be eligible to be hired by one of SUNY Oswego’s workforce development partners, which includes CenterState CEO.

"Following the Micron announcement, the Instructor Bootcamp was designed by faculty in SUNY Oswego's Career and Technical Educator Preparation department and with our partners to meet their workforce development needs and expectations,” said Kristi Eck, SUNY Oswego's Chief of Staff and Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives, External Partnerships, and Legislative Affairs and the Instructor Bootcamp Project Director.

The program's delivery is based on SUNY Oswego's 162-year-old tradition of ‘learning by doing’ with a combination of in-person, online, and micro teaching embedded into the 40-hour program. Instructors will not be required to design curriculum, and prior teaching experience is not needed.

The program is designed to leverage the expertise of those who have worked in advanced manufacturing and other high tech fields and want to share their real life knowledge and experience with those seeking to enter the workforce. As one of the top teacher colleges in the Northeast, SUNY Oswego staff will go over all the necessary skills to be a successful teacher, including diversity, equity and inclusion training.

“We are thrilled to lead this regional initiative that helps drive workforce innovation and upward mobility in our region and state. The purpose and principles behind the creation of the Instructor Bootcamp directly align with the vision of SUNY Oswego's new president, Dr. Peter O. Nwosu, who is dedicated to making our region and state the best place to work and live,” said Eck.

Any interest in or questions about the program can be sent to [email protected].
