Member Opportunity: Provide Employment to City Youth This Summer

This summer, businesses once again have an opportunity to connect with local talent and highlight the incredible professional opportunities that exist in this community. Onondaga County and the city of Syracuse are partnering to sponsor another summer of youth employment for young city residents. With On Point for College and CNY Works, this state-funded youth employment program provides city youth with valuable work experience and local employers with supplemental assistance at no cost to them.
Employer costs can be covered through the city-county partnership while payroll and other related costs are managed by CNY Works. Employers who operate as sponsored work sites can take on young people for on-site, remote, or hybrid positions. The program runs for six weeks between July and August, and youth will work 25 hours a week at their assigned organization or business.
Participating employers must:
- Belocated in Syracuse/Onondaga County.
- Provide at least six weeks of work experience.Work experience can last up to 12 weeks.
- Complete application and submit job descriptions for available positions.
- Host visit by CNY Works to ensure safe working conditions and completion of worksite profile.
- Attend a supervisor orientation provided by Workforce Solutions – virtual, onsite, or offsite.
- Providean initial orientation to participants entering the worksite, provide daily supervision, mentoring, and specific job training to the participant placed at the worksite.
- Deliver continuous feedback to the participant(s) and to the CNY Works representative.
