See list of 295 Syracuse-area companies named 'economic champions'

Syracuse, N.Y. — CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity recognized a record 295 companies at its annual "Economic Champions" luncheon Thursday at the Oncenter.

The Syracuse-area companies (see list below) were honored for their collective hiring of 3,163 employees, more than 1 million square feet of expansions and more than $650 million in capital investments over the past year. Sixty-eight of the companies were also recognized for opening the doors to a new business.

St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center received CenterState's Community Visionary Award, which is given to a person, company or association that "embodies the vision of economic opportunity and has had significant impact on community prosperity."

More than 600 people attended the event. Companies were nominated for their accomplishments by peers, employees and staff.

The luncheon also featured remarks by entrepreneur Wiley Cerilli, 36, who dropped out of Syracuse University at age 19 to join the founding executive team of Seamless, an online food ordering business, then went on to found SinglePlatform, an online marketing service for businesses. (SinglePlatform was acquired in 2012 for $100 million by ConstantContact.)

Cerilli's latest venture is Good Uncle, a food delivery business that he said will be sort of a restaurant without a storefront. Customers will order meals via a smartphone app. The meals will be prepared at a kitchen the company plans to open soon at 614 S. Crouse Ave., then delivered directly to the customer or at various drop-off locations, he said.

CenterState is a business leadership organization that also serves as the Greater Syracuse chamber of commerce.
