ROME, N.Y. (September 9, 2026) – Nascentia Health and Nascentia Neighborhood are proud to announce that construction has begun on the transformation of the historic Inn at The Beeches, marking one of the most significant milestones to date in the development of Nascentia Neighborhood.
The project will breathe new life into the long-vacant Inn while creating 48 affordable apartments within a thoughtfully designed, aging-in-place community. Twenty-four apartments will be created through the historic rehabilitation of the existing Inn, while two new buildings containing 12 apartments each will be constructed alongside it.
“The start of construction marks another major step forward for Nascentia Neighborhood, a vibrant community where adults 55 and older can live an active lifestyle, stay connected, and age in place with the amenities and wellness supports they need.” said Kate Rolf, President and CEO of Nascentia Health. “Rome has always held a special place in my heart, and this first housing milestone lays the foundation for creating even more opportunities for people to remain in the community they know and love.”
The Inn project is part of the broader vision for Nascentia Neighborhood, a planned 72-acre community designed to help adults remain independent, active, and connected as they age. The community will eventually offer a variety of housing choices, access to health and supportive services, walking trails, wellness amenities, and social opportunities.
The apartments will provide affordable housing primarily for adults aged 60 and older and households with incomes below 60-percent of the area median income. The development will include accessible apartments and aging-in-place features designed to allow residents to live safely and comfortably as their needs change.
Residents will also have access to community and fitness rooms, gathering and activity spaces, outdoor recreational areas, raised garden beds, and walking trails. Nascentia Health and other community providers will be able to connect residents with home- and community-based care, transportation, telehealth, personal care assistance, nutrition support, and other services based on their individual needs.
New York State Homes and Community Renewal has been an essential partner in advancing the
project, providing critical financial resources along with guidance and technical assistance throughout
the planning and development process. The project has also benefited from significant grant support
from The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, additional grant support from the
Rome Community Foundation, and construction and permanent financing from NBT Bank. Nascentia
Health and Nascentia Neighborhood are deeply grateful to each of these partners for their
commitment to the project and for helping make this milestone possible.
Constructed in 1955 and known for many years as The Beeches Paul Revere Lodge or Paul Revere
Motor Lodge, the historic Inn has long been a familiar part of the Rome community. The Beeches
Historic District, including the former Inn, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in
April 2023. The rehabilitation will preserve the Inn’s historic character while adapting it to meet
contemporary housing, accessibility, energy-efficiency, and safety standards.
The Inn project follows the successful restoration and reopening of Beeches Manor in 2023 as a
restaurant, conference center, and special-events destination. That renovation represented the first
major step in bringing activity back to The Beeches campus. The Inn is the next chapter—transforming
another familiar part of the property into a place where people can once again feel at home.
Construction is now underway, with work expected to continue for approximately 19 months. A formal
groundbreaking celebration is planned for November, providing an opportunity for state and local
leaders, project partners, supporters, and members of the community to come together and
commemorate this important milestone. Leasing activity is anticipated to begin in 2027, with initial
occupancy expected in early 2028.
Additional information about the November groundbreaking celebration and the continued
development of Nascentia Neighborhood will be announced as details are finalized.
