Job Summary:
The Technical Assistant will support ON-RAMP CNY in delivering high-quality classroom and hands-on training. This role focuses on directly assisting trainees, providing technical instruction, and ensuring the smooth operation of daily programming. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in construction trades, and/or manufacturing, and/or related fields, strong organizational & classroom management skills, and the ability to quickly build rapport with trainees and program partners in and out of the classroom.
ON-RAMP is a workforce development training organization supported by CenterState CEO as part of a statewide initiative to train Central New York residents in advanced manufacturing, construction and adjacent industries. ON-RAMP Workforce Training Center offers a variety of workforce training programs with a focus on construction, manufacturing, and related fields, preparing participants for successful careers in these industries.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)
Classroom & Technical Support (~45%)
- Assist Program Instructors with daily classroom operations and hands-on training.
- Support trainees in understanding and applying technical skills in alignment with curriculum standards.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, tools, and equipment for all training sessions.
- Monitor trainee engagement, attendance, and progress, providing individualized support as needed.
- Promote a safe, professional, and productive learning environment.
- Coordinate with supportive services, career exploration, and other programs within the workforce training center to help trainees successfully complete their training.
- Transport trainees to off-site visits and tours in agency vehicle.
Program Coordination & Administration (~45%)
- Assist with scheduling, planning, and logistics for training sessions, workshops, and career exploration events.
- Maintain accurate records of trainee progress, attendance, and participation.
- Collect feedback from trainees to help assess program effectiveness and suggest improvements.
- Facilitate communication between trainees, instructors, program staff, and partner organizations.
- Support administrative tasks, including updating databases, helping to prepare reports, and ensuring materials and resources are ready for each session.
Community & Partner Engagement (~10%)
- Coordinate with partner organizations, instructors, and employers as needed to ensure smooth program delivery.
- Assist in referring trainees to supportive services or additional training opportunities.
- Communicate effectively with trainees about schedules, expectations, and program resources.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
- Temp to Hire
- Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, approximately 40 hours per week
Travel
- Occasional travel may be required for off-site meetings, conferences and trainings, and site or partner visits
Minimum Required Education and Experience:
- Prior administrative experience.
- Familiarity with pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship programs.
Special Requirements:
- Valid New York State driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Some practical experience in construction, trades, or related technical fields or the ability to learn those skills.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish positive relationships with trainees.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality instruction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with databases and other data collection systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with pre-apprenticeship or apprenticeship programs is a plus.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Close mental and visual attention required to perform work, verbal communication, using a computer terminal, and/or extensive reading.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds and push and/or pull up to 20-pound loads at a time relative to event-based equipment.
Work Environment:
This position operates in a professional office environment with regular use of general office equipment.
