Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo Announces New Date for ‘Zoo Run Run’ 5K on June 20

Get out and get moving on behalf of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo! The Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo is excited to announce that the annual “Zoo Run Run” 5K has moved to a new early-summer date: Saturday, June 20, 2026. The event offers a unique opportunity to get some exercise while hanging out with an array of beautiful wild creatures. Participants can join the race as a "lone wolf" or build a team to "run with the pack" to help support the zoo’s mission. Runners and walkers of all levels are welcome, and the event features a specialized 1K Fun Run for children.

All proceeds raised by the Zoo Run Run support the mission of the Friends of the Zoo to provide exceptional animal care and unparalleled conservation education in Central New York and beyond.

“We are thrilled to move this annual tradition to June, offering our participants a beautiful Saturday morning to experience the zoo in a whole new way,” says Andrew Brazill, Interim Executive Director of the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. “This event is about education, engagement, and exercise. Whether you’re running for a personal best or enjoying a morning walk with a stroller, you are directly contributing to the welfare of the animals our zoo protects.”

Participants are encouraged to register early and begin fundraising. Top fundraising teams and individuals will have the opportunity to earn exclusive zoo merchandise and unique animal experiences. All registrants receive a finisher’s medal and complimentary admission to the zoo for the day.

The race begins at 7 a.m. with staggered waves based on pace. After the final wave, participants are invited to stick around to learn more about their favorite animals and enjoy complimentary water and snacks before the zoo officially opens to the public at 11 a.m.

Registration Options:

  • In-Person Member $32: For active zoo members.
  • In-Person Non-Member $35: For general participants.

Zoo Run Run Wave Schedule:

  • Wave 1 (7:00 a.m.): Competitive Run (35 minutes or less)
  • Wave 2 (7:40 a.m.): Intermediate Run (40 minutes or less)
  • Wave 3 (8:30 a.m.): Standard Run (45 minutes or less)
