Oswego Health Medial Practice Expands Advanced Orthopedic Services with Cervical Spine Surgery and Treatment

Posted on September 8, 2026

(Oswego, NY – September 8, 2026) Oswego Health Medical Practice is expanding access to advanced orthopedic care with the addition of cervical spine surgery and treatment through its Center for Orthopedic Care. The first cervical spine procedure was successfully performed on September 2, at Oswego Hospital, marking another milestone in the health system’s continued investment in comprehensive, specialized care for the community.

The new cervical spine service is led by Raman Dhawan, MD, a board-certified orthopedic and spine surgeon with more than 18 years of experience in orthopedic surgery. Dr. Dhawan completed his orthopedic residency at SUNY Upstate Medical University before completing a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of California San Diego, where he further developed his expertise in advanced spine care. Prior to joining Oswego Health, Dr. Dhawan practiced at Crouse Hospital and has also cared for patients at Geneva General Hospital and Community Memorial Hospital.

Cervical spine conditions can affect the bones, discs, nerves and spinal cord in the neck and may contribute to neck pain, nerve compression, spinal stenosis and herniated discs. Depending on a patient’s condition and individual needs, treatment may include non-surgical approaches as well as a variety of surgical procedures.

Through the Center for Orthopedic Care, patients may receive evaluation and treatment for cervical spine conditions, including procedures such as cervical epidural steroid injections, cervical discectomy, cervical fusion, including anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), cervical laminectomy and cervical disc replacement.

“We are continually looking for ways to advance the services we offer so our patients can access high-quality, specialized care within their own community,” said Wajeeh Sana, MD, Chief Medical Officer and President of Oswego Health Medical Practice. “The addition of cervical spine surgery and treatment further strengthens our orthopedic program and gives patients another option for receiving advanced care through a team they know and trust.”

The addition of cervical spine surgery builds on the Center for Orthopedic Care’s comprehensive orthopedic services, which include joint replacement, sports medicine, fracture and trauma care, hand and wrist care, elbow and shoulder care, lumbar and cervical spine care, non-surgical treatment options and comprehensive rehabilitation. The Center’s orthopedic team works collaboratively to develop personalized treatment plans designed to help patients improve mobility, reduce pain and return to the activities that matter most to them.

“Expanding our spine services is an important step forward for our orthopedic program,” Sana shared. “Our goal is to provide patients with comprehensive evaluation and treatment options while delivering the specialized spine care they need as close to home as possible.”

Oswego Health’s continued investment in orthopedic and surgical services reflects its commitment to evolving with the needs of the community. By bringing additional specialized services to Oswego Hospital and expanding the expertise available through the Center for Orthopedic Care, Oswego Health Medical Practice is working to provide patients with more opportunities to receive advanced care locally.

Patients interested in learning more about cervical spine treatment or scheduling an appointment with Dr. Dhawan or a member of the orthopedic team can call the Center for Orthopedic Care at 315-349-5873.
