Simpson Statement on CHIPS & Sience Agreement

CenterState CEO President Rob Simpson shared the following statement on the finalized historic CHIPS and Science Act investment for Micron Technology’s expansion plans in Central New York.

The Chips and Science Act is one of the most consequential pieces of legislation for Central New York in decades. The agreement reached today between Micron and the federal government is a historic milestone that solidifies the company’s ability to move forward with building its megafab in the town of Clay, New York, the largest expansion in the company’s history.

This landmark announcement is more than an investment; it’s a catalyst for sustained economic growth. This investment and project are not only paramount to our economic and community progress, they also put our region – with all its capabilities and talent – at the forefront of national and economic security. Central New York will be a leader in the domestic production of chips that we rely on every day, making this a vital hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation.

This is an incredibly exciting moment for our country and community. I commend U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and the entire delegation for their bipartisan support that enabled the creation of the Chips and Science Act in 2022. It now brings unprecedented investment and new opportunity to Central New York and its residents, and further solidifies this region’s position as a leader in U.S. semiconductor manufacturing.
