Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo to Host Earth Day FestivitiesPosted on April 9, 2024 |
The Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo will host the Novelis Party for the Planet in celebration of Earth Day.
Saturday, April 20, the Novelis Party For the Planet kicks off at 10 a.m. As the zoo’s official Sustainability Sponsor, Novelis (a global leader in aluminum recycling) with additional support from Equitable will host an eco-event for the ages, bringing in dozens of conservation groups and thousands of visitors to the zoo to spotlight nature conservation and saving species. The event will feature animal demonstrations and creature chats focused on endangered species, conservation-themed games and activities, green infrastructure and garden tours, a sapling give away from Bartlett Tree Experts, and more. The zoo’s Conservation Stations and Eco-partners will offer fun activities, giveaways and sustainability tips. Guests can connect with fellow eco-enthusiasts by posting pictures of their Earth Day endeavors and tagging the zoo’s social media accounts.
“Earth Day isn’t just about cleaning up trash – a world without litter is a great goal, but that is just the start,” said Carrie Large, executive director of the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. “We want to set our sights higher and aim not just for a litter-free planet, but rather, for a world in which we are active stewards of the wonderful life around us. By encouraging our community to both clean up and create, we are teaching them to take care of existing wildlife, while nurturing a habitat for future wildlife!”
