Honoring Local Businesses During National Small Business Week

Posted on April 30, 2023

This is National Small Business Week! In connection with the weeklong celebration, the Small Business Development Center headquartered at Onondaga Community College is recognizing outstanding businesses throughout the counties it serves.

The 2023 honorees are:

Cayuga County Winand Products Inc. in Auburn

Madison County H. Grey Supply Company in Cazenovia

Onondaga County Birch Tree Montessori in Warners

Oswego County Man in the Moon Candies in Oswego

Seneca County Finger Lakes Cider House in Interlaken

Throughout National Small Business Week representatives of OCC’s SBDC will be making presentations at each of the five businesses.

The SBDC at OCC is also proud to recognize the Regional Small Business Lender Partner of the Year, Pathfinder Bank.

“One of the best aspects of what we do at the SBDC is celebrate small businesses. They overcome so much, from starting up, surviving through the lean times, and managing an incredible pace of constant change. The challenges they face are simply incredible, which makes their stories worth telling. We’re so proud of what each of these businesses have accomplished. We also salute Pathfinder Bank for their support of small businesses in our area. Small business is the heartbeat of Central New York. There are challenges ahead. A great deal of economic uncertainty is present. That is where we can help. Just like these successful businesses we worked with, our team can help new and existing businesses navigate that uncertainty and make sound decisions about the future,” said Bob Griffin, Regional Director of the SBDC at OCC.

The Small Business Development Center at OCC offers no-cost, confidential business advisement services to individuals and companies throughout a six-county region including Cayuga, Cortland, Madison, Onondaga, Oswego, and Seneca counties. The advisor team has more than 150 years of collective business and business advisement experience. They provide customized solutions through advisement, education, research and advocacy for entrepreneurs, innovators, and the small & medium enterprise community.

Over the past 4 years (2019 – 2022), the SBDC at OCC has:

Assisted more than 4,600 clients,

Nearly 640 of which started new businesses,

Supported the creation or protection of more than 11,700 jobs,

And aided entrepreneurs in securing nearly $72 million in investment, including loans, grants, or other private financing.
