Local firm takes on youngest client ever: 14-year-old local book author

Posted on December 16, 2020

Strategic Communications, LLC in Syracuse has taken on its youngest client ever: 14-year-old Fayetteville-Manlius High School freshman and new book author Avery Luttrell.

Luttrell has published her first novel “The Dakotah Green Files: Mission Robot.” The book was self-published through Barnes and Noble and is available in paperback and e-book at bn.com.

Strategic Communications began offering book publicity services for local authors in 2018.

“Book publicity was a natural evolution of our firm’s focus on public relations and news media, as well as an opportunity for our clients to explore authoring their own books and using the firm they already know and trust to promote those books,” said Crystal DeStefano, APR, president and director of public relations at Strategic Communications, LLC. “We work alongside a range of publishers, from ForbesBooks to self-published authors like Avery Luttrell.”

Set in the Depression Era on the brink of World War II, Luttrell’s novel follows Dakotah Green, a smart, curious and independent young woman, who finds herself at the center of a government mission. The novel is a fantastic combination of historical and science fiction writing; taking the reader on a trip back in time full of intrigue, twists and turns. This is Luttrell’s first book in what is intended to be a series of books for readers ages 9-12.

Luttrell shared: “We had just finished learning about World War II in Global Studies, when I heard about another young author who had published a book at (the age of) 17. I’ve always loved writing as a creative outlet, and I always loved history. So, I decided to go for it. And writing The Dakotah Green Files was a way for me to place myself in history. My hope is that other kids read the story and feel a connection with Dakotah and empowered by her.”

Luttrell learned about Strategic Communications and its reputation for excellence in public relations through the firm’s consultants who teach at Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications. The company was founded in Syracuse in 2004, and DeStefano became owner and president in 2014.

“While our company had 10 years of experience providing public relations services to local, regional and national clients, I wanted to shift our focus to serve local companies and organizations in CNY,” DeStefano explained. “There’s an extra bit of passion and pride when you’re working with and supporting the community where you live.”
