President of Eastern Security Services: “We Are Not For Sale”

Eastern Security Services— Not For Sale

The security industry has experienced a wave of mergers and acquisitions in recent years, with many independent providers being acquired by larger corporations and private equity firms. While these transactions often promise increased resources and expanded reach, they can also result in diminished customer service, technician expertise, and response times as companies prioritize financial returns over personalized service.

There are numerous examples of this ongoing consolidation, but two particularly noteworthy and local instances include the October 2023 acquisition of ADT Commercial by the private equity firm GTCR, leading to its rebranding as Everon¹. Additionally, in March 2023, Pye-Barker Fire & Safety expanded into Western New York through the acquisition of Amherst Alarm², a respected provider of fire alarm, security, and monitoring services.

Several studies have underscored the challenges associated with acquisitions, with employee turnover being one of the most significant. An MIT study found that 33% of employees leave their company within the first year after an acquisition. While turnover gradually decreases over a three-year period, employees brought in through acquisitions remain 15% more likely to depart than regular hires³. As restructuring efforts take precedence, longstanding customer relationships and localized service often deteriorate, leading to disruptions in service quality and client satisfaction.

Eastern Security Services, however, remains steadfast in its commitment to its independence. Under the leadership of President Cooper MacDonnell, the  company recently reaffirmed that it is not for sale⁴ and continues to prioritize high-quality service, rapid response times, and strong community relationships. By remaining privately owned by the MacDonnell family, without private investors, Eastern Security Services ensures that its technicians are well-trained, its clients receive personalized support, and its operations remain focused on security rather than shareholder returns.

As the security industry continues to evolve, Eastern Security Services stands apart as a dedicated, independent provider, committed to delivering reliable, locally focused security solutions for businesses and homeowners across Upstate New York.
