The Innovation Hot Spot program is designed for formative stage companies in the tech and manufacturing industries, and provides five years of corporate, personal income, and sales tax incentives to qualifying companies. Eligible companies receive entrepreneurial services during their enrollment through The Tech Garden as the regional Innovation Hot Spot, or through our incubator partners, to help companies grow in Central New York.

The Tech Garden is the designated Innovation Hot Spot for the Central New York region. This designation is received through a competitive process; Empire State Development's Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) has designated 10 Innovation Hot Spots—one for each of New York's economic development regions—and 20 Certified Business Incubators, which receive funding to reach a greater number of early-stage companies through the program. Tax incentive certifications are provided by a NY Certified Innovation Hot Spot, like The Tech Garden, whose goal is to provide services and resources that enable these businesses to successfully transition from startup phase to larger-scale commercialization of their products and services.
