How To Make Tomorrow A Better Day

Do you find yourself dreading the alarm? Are you feeling stressed? Is it hard to find time during the day to catch your breath? Do you leave work wondering what you really accomplished and worrying about what waits to be done at home? While there are no magic wands, during this session you will learn strategies for how to start your day with realistic goals, incorporate a mindfulness technique throughout the day, and how to end your day with personal reflection.

Panelists include:

Dr Thomas L. Schwartz, MD, is currently professor and chair of psychiatry at SUNY Upstate Medical University.  He is an active on many teaching, administrative and academic oriented committees at SUNY.  He also provides direct resident supervision, lectures in several courses with resident, medical PA, and NP students.  He directs and organizes continuing medical education events for the psychiatry department.  Dr Schwartz received his medical degree from and completed his residency in adult psychiatry at the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York.

Scot Brown, MA, SHRM-CP, Organizational Effectiveness Program Consultant at St. Joseph’s Health/Trinity Health.  Scot is a skilled professional in HR management and learning/performance program leadership with over 15 years of experience providing HR leadership in the international development, civil infrastructure, and healthcare industries. Scot has extensive experience in all aspects of training leadership and execution, including strategic planning, program development and management, and blended learning solutions. Scot is known for building valuable relationships and works well with people at all levels of an organization, including senior executives, management, team members, and clients. 

Rachelle Lando, M.A. Somatic Counseling Psychology, Certified Clinical Aromatherapy Practitioner, Reiki and Healing Touch Practitioner.  Rachelle received her Master’s degree from John F. Kennedy University in the Bay area.  Rachelle has worked at St. Joseph’s Health for 13 years. Her current role of eight years, has been building a Healing Arts program and optimizing the Language Services program. In the Healing Arts program, she developed six programs including healing touch, therapy pets, aromatherapy, music therapy, Music & Memory and therapeutic music. In addition, Rachelle teaches self-care and stress management classes to graduate nurses. She is the coordinator of the Colleague Care Team that was instituted in the beginning of the pandemic to ensure all colleagues feel supported during every day stressors and the continual transformation of healthcare. 

Moderator:  Luis Escoboza is the Chief Impact Officer at the United Way of Central New York. In that capacity he cultivates relationships with local stakeholders, oversees strategic community investments, and implements processes and systems that optimize resource allocation.

The Workplace Wellness series explores how mental health affects us at home, at work, and in the community, in addition to examining the real costs of its challenges.
