Across our community, many families face food insecurity, housing instability and limited access to basic but essential items to support their daily needs. Community support for nonprofits and service organizations, and direct giving  is notably generous around the holiday season. But the need continues year-round.

CenterState CEO thanks and applauds the business community for its continued leadership in helping those in the region who need it most, and asks for your ongoing support.

Lend Support or Find Assistance:

  • Samaritan Center | Give Today: Urgent needs include: hygiene essentials (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine care items); diapers and baby wipes. Monetary gifts are the fastest and most effective way to respond to urgent shortages, allowing the center to purchase in bulk and ensure shelves are stocked when need spikes unexpectedly.
  • InterFaith Works | Give Today: Rising food costs and lost of benefits is impacting many families across Central New York. YOu can support their Food Access Appeal by making a financial gift online, donating grocery store gift cards, or organizing a gift card drive through your workplace, faith community, or neighborhood.

  • United Way of Central New York | Get Involved: Learn ways you can support immediate needs and find other ways to give or volunteer, including the it's annual Day of Caring in August.

  • Rescue Mission | Current Needs: Individuals and families served in three regions are in need of food, shelter, basic hygiene items, clothing and undergarments. You can make a direct monetary donation, donated goods/supplies, or set up a donation drive at your place of employment, school, or community.

  • Paige’s Childhood Cancer Fund | How They Help: The organization is a resource for supporting families battling a cancer diagnosis, including providing Comfort Kits, and a Family Assistance Fund, other wrap around services. Find support or contribute on their website.

  • YWCA of Syracuse & Onondaga County, Inc. | Ways to Give: The YWCA provides services for women and their families. Its local programs and services further its vision of peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. Find program wish lists, how to donate, and find support through programs

  • Central New York Community Foundation | Resources | Ways to Give: Find a list of many nonprofit partners, food distribution sites and pantries that are positioned to provide support, as well as how community members can consider directing donations to these organizations.

  • Food Bank of Central New York Ways to Help | Find Resources

  • Harvest Hope Syracuse, through the Synergy program at MercyWorks | Learn more: Seeks  to reduce barriers to nutrition, stability and youth development. It is seeking support in the form of food items/pantry staples to help sustain our community fridge network; hygiene products, winter essentials, or basic household supplies for families in crisis.

  • United Way of Greater Oswego County | Support: Learn how you can support the Oswego County community.

  • Oswego County Opportunities | Donate: Find ongoing wish list needs, donate online, or find services.

  • Integrated Community Planning of Oswego County | Donate:Support youth and families in Oswego County.

Mindful Donations

Your support can make an even greater impact when it aligns with what local food banks truly need. Use these tips to help you give with intention and compassion, and make the greatest impact.

Check Before You Give

A quick call to local pantries or other organizations helps ensure your donation is truly needed, usable and impactful. Check in with them and ask:

  • What items are most needed right now?
  • Are there items you cannot accept?
  • Would monetary donations be more helpful this week?

Consider how items will be used. For example, some households may not have appliances or tools, like can openers or full cooking facilities. Additionally, check for organizations' online "wish lists" to see what items are most in need, which can then be sent directly to them.

Why Monetary Donations are Beneficial

While physical food and other drives are meaningful, monetary donations often help food banks and other nonprofit organizations do even more. A financial gift provides these organizations the flexibility to serve families most effectively. With monetary support, they can:

  • Purchase specific items to meet demand.
  • Buy in bulk at significantly lower costs.
  • Fill gaps with fresh food like produce and proteins.
  • Stretch every dollar—often turning $1 into multiple meals.
