SYRACUSE, NY – Robert M. Simpson, president of CenterState CEO, in Syracuse, issued the following statement following Governor Kathy Hochul’s State of the State Address:

“Gov. Kathy Hochul’s focus on making New York more affordable, reducing regulatory burdens and providing greater opportunity in her 2026 State of the State address provides a clear vision for 2026. Addressing cost of living items such as home and auto insurance rates and housing will make the state a better place to do business, to move to, and to call home.

“We commend Gov. Hochul’s dedication to creating new housing opportunities through her ‘Let Them Build’ agenda. The Governor’s proposed changes to the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) will decrease project costs for builders and help bring needed new housing developments off the sidelines. More safe, affordable housing is necessary as we anticipate welcoming new people to Central New York. Reforms that enable the process to run more efficiently will help us reach our housing goals.

“We applaud Gov. Hochul’s goal of increasing the state’s nuclear capacity, generating more reliable, carbon-free power for New York. We need more energy to meet the everyday power demands of New York communities, as well as the regional and state projects that are providing historic opportunities. As home to part of the state’s existing nuclear fleet, Central New York knows investing in nuclear power can provide both energy and economic benefit.  We’re encouraged by Gov. Hochul’s plans to create new nuclear career pathways so that local communities are prepared for the opportunity that comes with expanding advanced nuclear energy.

“Looking to the immediate future, we share the Governor’s excitement for Micron’s groundbreaking this Friday. This is the start of a new chapter for Central New York’s economy, one that took years of hard work, strategy and collaboration. CenterState CEO looks forward to working alongside the Governor and state partners to create a prosperous economy for all.

“CenterState CEO appreciates Gov. Hochul’s consistent efforts to help create the innovative and skilled workforce needed for New York’s future. The Governor’s plans to invest $500 million in semiconductor and other advanced manufacturing workforce development programming compliments Micron’s historic investment in Central New York, and the region’s growing technology economy.

“CenterState CEO supports Gov. Hochul’s move to legalize fully autonomous vehicles in New York, outside of New York City. Companies like Waymo have proven autonomous vehicles can operate safely and provide people with creative, accessible transportation solutions. As Syracuse and Central New York invests in its innovation economy, it’s important we take the opportunity to thoughtfully deploy new technology in our community.

“Safe, affordable child care is an essential part of a thriving regional economy. CenterState CEO supports Gov. Hochul’s plans for a path to universal pre-kindergarten across New York state by the end of the decade, and continued investments in high-quality child care for all. By strengthening the networks that support families, regional and state economies can create more opportunities for growth.”
