SYRACUSE, NY – Robert M. Simpson, president of CenterState CEO, in Syracuse, issued the below statement following the Gov. Kathy Hochul's signing of the Green CHIPS legislation today.
"Today’s signing of New York State’s Green CHIPS legislation by Governor Hochul is an important milestone in regional efforts to attract semiconductor manufacturing companies to the state. It comes days after President Biden signed the federal CHIPS and Science Act. Coupled with the federal CHIPS and Science Act, Green CHIPS provides the critical resources that are necessary to bring these projects to New York. CenterState CEO advocated strongly for Green CHIPS and provided key support as legislation was developed because we believe it positions us to attract transformative projects that will be executed in a responsible way. Under Green CHIPS, these projects must include partnerships for workforce training, pay prevailing wage on construction, include community benefits, and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Green CHIPS also aligns with our regional effort through the Build Back Better Regional Challenge to develop a ‘smart systems’ cluster for Central New York that would make it a global tech hub by expanding its semiconductor manufacturing industry. This is a once-in-a-generation investment, and thanks to decades of bipartisan work, New York is ready to capitalize on this moment. We thank Governor Hochul, NYS Senator Jeremy Cooney, NYS Senator John Mannion and NYS Assemblyman Al Stirpe for their work on this important legislation.”
