Syracuse City School District and Syracuse Build's Pathways to Apprenticeship piloted a youth construction training program this summer to help local students explore careers in union apprenticeship. The four-week program, supported by CenterState CEO and the Central and Northern New York Building Trades Council, provided 16 young adults to explore different opportunities in the building trades.
Participants learned foundational construction skills, first aid and OSHA regulations and connected with local union-sponsored apprenticeship programs. Pathways to Apprenticeship Director Ebony Farrow told CNY Central it's about engaging and activating young people.
“Our youth are brilliant. I think it's time we start to tap into their brilliance, whether it's hands-on things or academic things. I think it's a great opportunity to expand both of those," said Farrow.
