The Advance Media NY Editorial Board sat down with CenterState CEO's Ben Sio and Dr. Juhanna Rogers, Empire State Development's Executive Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Younis. SUNY EOC Vice President Tim Penix and Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon on the day of the Micron DEIS public hearing to discuss the necessary next steps to advance Micron's plans for a megafab facility in Clay, NY. The conversation covered a wide range of topics from federal subsidies and additional permits needed to housing and Micron's market demands.
Among the takeaways from the meeting, held the day of the DEIS pubic hearing, was a message that the Micron project is shifting from planning to "doing," with the company and local partners committed to seeing the project be successful.
"Micron said in the DEIS that it needs to make 52,000 wafers per week to meet demand. 'For the first time, in writing, Micron was talking about the economics for them, why they need to build four fabs,' said Ben Sio, acting president and CEO of CenterState CEO, the business development group. McMahon noted that Micron just signed a big contract with Nvidia to make artificial intelligence chips."
