A recent article from Brookings Metro showcases Central New York as an example of how a region is turning major public and private investment in nationally critical industries into strategies that grow good jobs and expand economic mobility. Fellows from Brookings Metro spent the last two years working with CenterState CEO and civic leaders across Central New York to understand how decades of sustained focus, co-investment and collaborative alignment has enabled economic reinvention.
"Central New York is now a key proving ground, as Micron Technology—a global leader in chip manufacturing—is using more than $10 billion in state and federal incentives to support a $100 billion investment in new semiconductor fabrication facilities in the region. Federal and state funding are converging with regional leadership to spark new forms of industrial innovation and, with the right additional steps, reconnect long-marginalized communities to pathways for economic mobility."
