CenterState CEO Chief Executive Officer Rob Simpson and NUAIR CEO Craig Marcinkowski talked with NewsChannel 9 WSYR's Jeff Kulikowski about how close Central New York is to regular Amazon drone deliveries, as well as the upcoming Innovation Night and GENIUS NY Pitch Finals.
"We've created the conditions for Amazon and companies like Amazon to have the safest airspace in the country to do drone delivery. It's been part of our strategy and our plan, and we're excited about the fact that there's an active conversation. Amazon is thinking about it. We have the opportunity to be one of the first 10 cities in America that they launch in.
"This region recognized 15 years ago, led by our private sector companies, Saab and SRC and Lockheed Martin, that there was a huge opportunity coming to build the next generation of air traffic management for low altitude surveillance. That is the opportunity set that this region has been chasing every step of the way for the last 15 years - launching the GENIUS NY program, creating NUAIR, working with Oneida County to land the FAA test site and all of the investments that New York State has made have been to help us, our companies here in Upstate New York sell into this national market for low altitude surveillance. That's the moment we're in."
