CenterState CEO Vice President of Workforce Innovation Aimee Durfee joined other regional workforce development partners at the first NY Workforce Connect Conference, hosted by Advance Media New York. The event at Syracuse University highlighted the workforce opportunities and challenges in the region as Micron and related businesses open and expand in Central New York.
Syracuse.com, published by Advance Media New York, shared takeaways from the event following its conclusion, including CenterState's Aimee Durfee's insights on reaching out to underserved populations and programs that can help:
"Reaching out to underserved populations is extremely important to grow the talent pool. For example, some Syracuse residents don’t feel they are the right fit for Micron jobs, said Aimee Durfee, of CenterStateCEO. 'Those jobs are for people in the suburbs,' people have told her. 'They’re not for us.' That led to the Syracuse Bridge to Manufacturing Careers program, which held its first classes at the Northside Learning Center, in the heart of the city’s refugee community."
