Neighbors Helping Neighbors

CenterState CEO thanks and applauds the business community for its continued leadership in helping those in the region who need it most, year round, and especially during the holiday season. During this holiday season, CenterState CEO staff has been pleased to support PEACE Inc. the United Way of Central New York and Oswego County Opportunities by collecting books, gifts and household essentials for families in our community.

Organizations across the region are still collecting items, accepting monetary donations and looking for volunteers to ensure that all Central New Yorkers are cared for during the holidays. Whether you're able to donate supplies or dedicate time, CenterState CEO encourages the entire business community to take part in giving back.

Lend Support or Find Assistance:

Mindful Donations This Holiday Season

The holiday season is one of the most generous times of year—and your support can make an even greater impact when it aligns with what local food banks truly need. Use these tips to help you give with intention and compassion, and make the greatest impact.

Check Before You Give

A quick call to local pantries or other organizations helps ensure your donation is truly needed, usable and impactful. Check in with them and ask:

  • What items are most needed right now?
  • Are there items you cannot accept?
  • Would monetary donations be more helpful this week?

Consider how items will be used. For example, some households may not have appliances or tools, like can openers or full cooking facilities. Additionally, check for organizations' online "wish lists" to see what items are most in need, which can then be sent directly to them.

Why Monetary Donations are Beneficial

While physical food and other drives are meaningful, monetary donations often help food banks and other nonprofit organizations do even more. A financial gift provides these organizations the flexibility to serve families most effectively. With monetary support, they can:

  • Purchase specific items to meet demand.
  • Buy in bulk at significantly lower costs.
  • Fill gaps with fresh food like produce and proteins.
  • Stretch every dollar—often turning $1 into multiple meals.
