Syracuse.com's Rick Moriarty took a tour of the new Innovation Hub space in downtown Syracuse, offering a peek inside the soon-to-be-completed facility. The expansion project grows the incubator's foot print to over 90,000 square feet and add a suite of new features including two new floors, an outdoor terrace, an event space for more than 200 people and much more:
CenterState CEO, the economic development organization that owns and operates the hub, expects to reopen the facility late this summer. Hueber-Breuer Construction Co. is the general contractor.
The hub opened in 2005 in the remains of a collapsed parking garage at the northeast corner of South Warren and Harrison streets.
It serves as a home for startup companies. Tenants share its conferencing and other amenities and receive mentoring from veteran entrepreneurs to help them grow their businesses.
The hub was originally named the Syracuse Technology Garden, then The Tech Garden, because of its initial focus on technology startups, including those in the uncrewed aerial vehicle industry.
But with its expanded space, the hub is looking to move beyond its laser focus on tech companies and lure in non-tech startups and small businesses, including those run by founders from underrepresented populations.
As part of that expanded mission, CenterState will announce a new name for the hub during its annual meeting next Wednesday (April 23).
