Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo Announces Leadership Transition

SYRACUSE, NY – The Board of Directors of the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo today announced a transition in executive leadership. Carrie Large has departed as Executive Director, and the Board has appointed current Director of Marketing and Communications, Andrew Brazill, to serve as Interim Executive Director, effective January 28, 2026.

During her tenure, Carrie Large’s leadership drove significant organizational success, including the securing of vital funding and the expansion of inclusive community events. She was instrumental in fostering a culture of empathy and collaboration, always focused on the Friends’ mission of conservation, education, and zoo support. Her impact significantly strengthened the bond between the organization, the Zoo, and the Central New York community.

"We want to express our deepest gratitude to Carrie for her dedicated service," said Terry Hopkins, Board Chair. "As we move forward, the Board is confident that Andrew Brazill’s familiarity with our operations will provide the stability needed to guide the organization during this transition."

Brazill will focus on maintaining organizational continuity, advancing key initiatives, and ensuring a seamless handoff to a permanent successor.

"I am honored to serve the Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in this interim capacity," said Brazill. "My priority is to provide a steady bridge for our staff and partners while ensuring we remain focused on our core mission."
