Hospice of CNY & Hospice of the Finger Lakes Virtual Volunteer Family Care Giver TrainingPosted on June 25, 2020 |
|
We are hosting our Fall Family Care Giver training via Zoom! This training is for those who are interested in providing support to patients and their families. Hospice Family Care Giver Volunteers may visit patients and families in their homes, at nursing homes, Matthew House or at Francis House, wherever the volunteer feels most comfortable. Length of volunteer visit is approximately 1 – 2 hours. The role of a family care giver volunteer is that of a friendly companion. Family Care Giver Volunteers do NOT provide hands on care. Some of the other ways that volunteers offer support to patients and families may include:
- Playing cards or games with the patient
- Reading books
- Light tasks i.e.; dishes, laundry, vacuum
- Writing letters
- Provide a quiet presence while the patient rests
If you are emotionally mature, compassionate and dedicated to providing sensitive support at the end-of-life to people and their families, please contact our Volunteer Office at (315) 634-1100 for more information.
