Registered Dietitian Philip Smith Joins Oswego Health

(Oswego, NY – October 15, 2024) Oswego Health is pleased to announce the addition of Philip Smith, MA, RD, as a new Nutritionist, enhancing our commitment to providing exceptional nutrition counseling services to our community. With a robust educational background and extensive experience, Smith is well-equipped to support individuals on their journey to better health through nutrition.

Smith is a Registered Dietitian (RD), credentialed by the Commission on Dietetic Registration after passing the rigorous registration exam. He holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition Science from Syracuse University, where he achieved a perfect GPA of 4.0. His academic excellence is complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Nutrition, also from Syracuse University, and he has received numerous awards including the Certificate of Merit from the New York State Assembly.

Before joining Oswego Health, Smith completed a comprehensive dietetic internship that included diverse experiences in clinical nutrition, community education, and food service management. His roles have ranged from conducting nutrition assessments and counseling patients in acute care settings to providing community-based nutrition education for mothers and families. His work at institutions such as Iroquois Skilled Nursing Community and Upstate University Hospital further honed his skills in providing tailored nutrition plans to meet individual needs.

At Oswego Health, Smith will offer personalized nutrition counseling for inpatients, outpatients, and community members. Our services include the use of advanced technology, such as an indirect calorimeter, which allows for accurate measurements of resting metabolic rates to help tailor caloric intake plans for weight management and overall health improvement.
