Syracuse Hancock International Airport Sees Busiest Year in its 75-Year History

Syracuse, New York – The Syracuse Regional Airport Authority (SRAA) announced today that over 3 million passengers passed through Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR) in 2024, making it the busiest calendar year ever in the airport’s 75-year existence. The small hub international airport saw 3,004,747 travelers in 2024, up 5% over 2023’s 2,856,038.

Of note, this impressive record was achieved despite Southwest Airlines’ exit from the market in early August 2024. Southwest accounted for approximately 12% of the airport’s traffic at the time. The SRAA’s eight airline partners operating at SYR have added an airport industry-leading number of flight frequencies, more than reconciling that capacity gap. Also of note, this record year comes before any Micron or related semiconductor industry travel demand begins.

“Very simply, this record-breaking traffic signals the strength of the demand in our market and reinforces that SYR has become the preferred airport for our region,” said SRAA Executive Director Jason Terreri. “The semiconductor-related travel uptick hasn’t really begun, we had a major carrier exit the market in August, and we still saw unprecedented traffic levels here in Syracuse. We greatly appreciate our eight airline partners closely working with us to monitor the needs of our community and add more flights and bigger planes to fulfill that demand.”

To view a monthly breakdown of traffic levels, please visit the airport’s Statistics page.
