Carbon Free New York, a coalition of organizations including CenterState CEO that support nuclear power in the state, shared a new impact report that analyzes the role of New York's nuclear fleet on the economy and in communities. The report makes clear that extending the Zero Emissions Carbon (ZEC) program will protect affordability, jobs and clean energy.
According to the report by Brattle, an extension of the ZEC program will result in:
- $50 billion in ratepayer savings by 2050
- $38 billion in economic contributions
- 14,400 good, local jobs sustained
- $10 billion in tax revenue preserved for schools, hospitals, and essential services
The New York Department of Public Service (DPS) published a white paper earlier this summer also recommending the continuation of the ZEC program. If not extended, the program is scheduled to expire in 2029.
