The Abell Foundation recently highlighted the Vehicles to Work program, a partnership between CenterState CEO and Westcott Community Center, in its report on transportation solutions for the Baltimore area. Vehicles to Work helps individuals pursuing in-demand careers secure reliable transportation by aiding in driver's license restoration, alternative vehicle financing, general vehicle literacy and more. Report authors Brendan Hellweg and Cherie Chung write of Vehicles to Work:
"The program has demonstrated measurable success in connecting transportation access to employment outcomes. Most participants are graduates of construction trades apprenticeship programs who needed cars to access suburban job sites. The program's effectiveness earned state recognition when Governor Kathy Hochul's FY2024 budget provided $1 million to expand the successful Syracuse Build Pathways to Apprenticeship program and expand Vehicles to Work program as part of Central New York economic development strategy."
Vehicles to Work is profiled on page 14 of the report.
