WHEN: Thursday, May 15, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Media can come any time within that 2-hour window to speak with students and faculty.
WHERE: Gordon Student Center Great Room, Onondaga Community College campus, 4585 West Seneca Turnpike, Syracuse. Park in lot 13 in front of the SRC Arena. On the attached campus map, the Gordon Student Center is denoted with a “G.”
WHAT: Onondaga Community College will celebrate the accomplishments of students enrolled in its Electromechanical Technology (ELM) program. The ELM program was created in response to Micron Technology’s decision to build a chip fabrication plant in Onondaga County. OCC welcomed its first group of ELM students in the fall 2023 semester. This Saturday, the first group of students who completed the program will receive their degrees.
During Thursday’s event, faculty in OCC’s School of Technology, Engineering & Computing will:
- Celebrate the inaugural ELM degree (2-year) graduates. Several were selected for paid internships at Micron in the summer of 2024. Some will return there to work following commencement.
- Celebrate the 2025 ELM certificate (1-year) graduates.
- Celebrate our second group of students selected for paid internships at Micron this summer (we have 8).
- Celebrate our students selected for paid internships as part of NY-CREATE. We have 5 students who will be working and learning at the Albany Nanotech complex this summer.
- Showcase the coursework and select hands-on activities students worked on throughout the past 2 years.
- Highlight the diverse group of instructors needed to deliver this program. The roster includes 27 unique instructors, 17 of whom were adjuncts from industry.
- Connect with Industry Partners who may be interested in learning more about the ELM program.
Media is welcome any time within the 4pm to 6pm window.
