Oswego, NY — Farnham Family Services is excited to announce that it has received a five-year grant from the Oswego County Department of Mental Hygiene that serves to combat suicide and mental health disparities in Oswego County. This funding directly supports the Oswego County Suicide Prevention Coalition, allowing it to continue working with local residents to raise awareness, share resources, and promote positive mental health in our community.

“We are thankful for this funding, which helps us keep building a stronger, more caring community,” said Tyler Ahart, Coalition Coordinator for the Oswego County Prevention Coalition. “Our community Coalition works hard to bring awareness to suicide and the importance of mental health in Oswego County. This grant funding allows us to continue our work and elevate our education efforts”.

The Importance of Mental Health Support

Nearly 50 million adults in the United States face mental health challenges. About 1 in 25 adults live with serious mental health issues each year, and nearly 10 million adults have suicidal thoughts. Sadly, less than half of people who need mental health care get the help they need due to cost, stigma, and other barriers.
