Home HeadQuarters is a non-profit housing and community development organization and certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) located in Syracuse that works to create housing and related opportunities and services in Central and Upstate New York that improve the lives of underserved people and revitalize the communities in which they live. Founded in 1996, the organization focuses on three lines of business: affordable lending, including for home purchase, home improvement, landlords and small businesses, property development and management, and homebuyer education and counseling.
Home HeadQuarters is currently the leading home improvement lender in Syracuse and the second leading home improvement lender in Onondaga County. Last year, Home HeadQuarters delivered more than $30 million in community development lending, mostly to homeowners from all economic backgrounds seeking to make substantial home improvements and first-time homebuyers looking to purchase a new home. In recognition of its efforts, national housing intermediary NeighborWorks America named Home HeadQuarters as the top home improvement lender this past year in its network.
HeadQuarters also organizes corporate, student and other community volunteers to work on neighborhood improvements in one single day of service during its annual Block Blitz event. This year’s event gathered more than 375 volunteers across 60 properties on Syracuse’s Southwest Side neighborhood, including preparing almost an acre of land at an urban farm planting, harvesting and teaching, as well as painting more than 470 linear feet of fence at five tiny homes.
