Senator Chuck Schumer recently announced Micron will receive $6.1 billion in grant funding from the CHIPS and Science Act. The funding announcement marks an important step in building new megafab facilities in Clay, NY, but the community will need to address regional issues, such as health care and housing, before it welcomes the semiconductor manufacturer.
“There's so much work to do that from my perspective, the skepticism around this project has held us back a little bit," CenterState CEO President Rob Simpson told WAER News. Micron plans to break ground following the completion of environmental reviews.
