Micron announces project in Syracuse

Senator Chuck Schumer recently announced Micron will receive $6.1 billion in grant funding from the CHIPS and Science Act. The funding announcement marks an important step in building new megafab facilities in Clay, NY, but the community will need to address regional issues, such as health care and housing, before it welcomes the semiconductor manufacturer.

“There's so much work to do that from my perspective, the skepticism around this project has held us back a little bit," CenterState CEO President Rob Simpson told WAER News. "So I hope that this announcement helps some of those people who perhaps are a little skeptical. It's probably the best chance we will ever have to remake our economy in in a more modern form, and we would be crazy not to seize that moment.”

Micron plans to break ground following the completion of environmental reviews.
